The search is on for the King and Queen of the 2017 High-Tec Walkerbay Xtreme (WBX), with the addition of the WBX Big 6 Xtreme Challenge to the 3-day adventure festival scheduled to take place in Hermanus early next year.
The WBX already promises to be a thrill-a-minute with 12 events taking place between 29 April and 1 May 2017. But, according to race organiser Rick Oosthuyzen, the Big 6 Xtreme Challenge adds a whole new dimension to the event.
“There is no other event like this in the country, with the exception of the Big 5 in Knysna. The WBX Big 6 Xtreme will undoubtedly challenge the mental and physical limits of every athlete that signs up,” says Oosthuyzen. “Participants will be required to do more than one event a day, which is no mean feat for even the most seasoned sportsman and woman.”
In addition to the glory of being crowned the ultimate Xtreme athlete, podium winners will also share in the prize purse of R30 000.
WBX Big 6 Challenge Schedule
The fittest and most daring athletes are invited to participate in six of WBX’s premier events:

Vicky van der Merwe, defending WBX triathlon champion and founder of Stellenbosch Triathlon Squad, could not be more excited about the addition of the Big 6 Xtreme.
“I’m so thrilled at the prospect of entering the WBX Big 6,” says Van der Merwe, who also took the crown at the Big 5 in July. “I love that athletes’ strengths and weaknesses will be tested through the various events, and that most people will have to overcome some sort of extreme challenge in order to complete the event.”
“It fits perfectly with the #FindYourXtreme slogan, and to compete in Hermanus, one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the world, will be absolutely amazing!”
